National Economies is a survey of the major economies of
the world,
including the United States, but with special emphasis
on
Japan and
Germany.
The other economies covered are:

The first part of the course is a
review of the relevant economic concepts and theory
concerning the macroeconomic performance of economies.
This material includes:
- 1. National income accounting
(GNP, GDP, NationalIncome, etc.)
- 2. Index numbers
(the price level and the rate of inflation)
- 3. Interest rates (nominal and real)
- 4. Money, banking and the quantity theory of money
- 5. Flow of funds analysis
- 6. Macroeconomic theory and the Keynesian multiplier effect
- 7. Employment and unemployment
- 8. Fiscal policy (taxation and government expenditure)
- 9. Monetay policy
- 10. Economic growth
- 11. The

Grading: Grades are based upon two midterm examinations (25% each), one final examination (40%) and a homework project (10%).
