Instructional Technology
Mission
The mission of the Instructional Technology Department in the College of Education at San José State University is to prepare instructional designers who have the knowledge, skills, dispositions and ethics that ensure equity and excellence for learners in a culturally diverse, technologically complex, global community.
The policies and practices of the Instructional Technology Department in the College of Education at San José State University are based on the belief that teaching or training in a democracy requires and must ensure that:
- Learners have access to an excellent and equitable education;
- Educators at every level have knowledge of their subject matter and their students, value and engage in ethical practice and excellent pedagogy, and develop dispositions and habits of the mind that ensure that all learners have equitable access to an excellent education;
- Stakeholders and partners in the community be involved in the collegial community engaged in the professional conversation and decision making that delineate standards, assign resources, guide program design, and reward accomplishment in the Department and College.
Graduate degree student learning outcomes:
- Students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to design conditions for learning by applying principles of instructional systems design, message design, instructional strategies, and learner characteristics.
- Students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to develop instructional materials and experiences using print, audiovisual, computer-based, and integrated technologies.
- Students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to use processes and resources for learning by applying principles and theories of media utilization, diffusion, implementation, and policy-making.
- Students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise instructional technology by applying principles of project, resource, delivery system, and information management.
- Students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to evaluate the adequacy of instruction and learning by applying principles of problem analysis, criterion-referenced measurement, formative and summative evaluation, and long-range planning.
