What is Webcasting/Streaming?
Webcasting, also called streaming, is a way to distribute a recording of a class or event over the internet. This is video and/or audio of a class or event you can view live on your desktop or laptop computer using a Flash media player. All live classes or events can be archived for viewing on-demand anywhere, anytime. You can also choose to have an archive only version of your recording for situations in which you want to control the timing of access to the recording.
How Do You View a Webcast?
You can view a webcast/stream by following these steps:
- Connect to the internet. If you're seeing this page, you're connected to the internet.
- Mac users must use the Chrome browser. PC users may use any browser.
- Click on the link for live classes if you would like to view a live class. Click on the link for archived classes if you would like to view an archived class.
- If you are viewing a live class, when you get to the live Webcast/Streaming page, find the current day of the week and the class you would like to view. Click on the link for the class. The Flash player that contains the Webcast/Stream for the class will appear. There is a menu of the classes for that day on the bottom of the Flash Video screen. Find your class in the list and click on it. You may have to place your cursor over the slide bar on the right side of the menu of classes that's located under the Flash Player video screen and scroll down to locate your class on the menu. The webcast/stream will start momentarily.
- If you are viewing an archived class, when you get to the archived Webcast/Streaming page, click on the university department that the class is in. When you get to the Archived Webcast/Streaming Classes page for that department, find the day of the week that the class is held. Click on the link for the class. This will take you to the Flash Video player for that class. There is a menu of the class dates for the current semester on the bottom of the Flash Video screen. Find the date of the class you would like to view in the list and click on it. You may have to place your cursor over the slide bar on the right side of the menu of classes that's located under the Flash Player video screen and scroll down to locate the date on the menu. The webcast/stream will start momentarily.
(Note: Most computers already have the Flash player installed. If yours doesn't, when you select your choice you will get a message that you need to download the Flash player. Just click on the link and the player will install in a few seconds.)
