Program Revisions

For additional MINOR Program Revisions not listed below, view the GoogleDoc folder that includes documentation detailing other minor revisions.

  • Aerospace Engineering, MS. Incorporate a GWAR requirement into program.
  • Applied Mathematics, BS. Increase the lower division requirements in the major to include MATH 39 and revise upper division requirements and reduce the total unit requirements by 3 units.
  • Archives and Record Administration, MARA. Remove a major core course and add an elective course. Most of the students in the program are already working and want a specialized elective class rather than an internship.
  • Art, BA (Studio Practice and Studio Practice Preparation for Teaching). The revised program now align much more closely with BA program in the Department of Design while also permitting considerable program flexibility. The changes to the Art History requirements for the BA Art, Preparation for Teaching, on the other hand, reflect more realistically which art history courses are actually being offered in the department.
  • Biological Sciences, MA. Program revisions to comply with EO 1071.
  • Business Administration, MBA for Professionals. Remove the 3-unit core course BUS 200W Business Research and Communication and to insert two new core courses: a 2-unit course BUS 200L Leadership Communication and a 1-unit course BUS 265P Silicon Valley Experience for Professionals.
  • Chemical Engineering, MS. Added CHE 200 Research Methods in Chemical and Materials Engineering and CHE 280 Graduate Research to the core, and removed CHE 207 from the core. Reduced CHE 298 and CHE 299 to culminating experience credit only which for us is an approved oral and written defense. The research units are now CHE 280 and students may use up to 10 CHE 280 units as part of their 30 units.
  • Chemistry, MA + MS. Incorporate a GWAR requirement into program.
  • Computer Engineering, MS. Changes include adding GWAR class as a degree requirement, removing one class (CMPE 256) and adding one class (CMPE 258) to the Data Science specialization, and changing the total degree units to 33.
  • Economics, BA. Two modifications to the course requirements for the Economics BA: One, replace one of the required Upper Division Economic Electives with ECON 103a as a required course. Two, replace the ECON 3 requirement with STAT 95. Requesting to increase the grade level requirement for the "Preparation for the Major" courses from C- or better to C or better. The courses include STAT 95 and MATH 30 (or MATH 71).  The intent of the degree modifications is to better prepare students for the job market and graduate school. The modifications also bring the department's curriculum inline with the broader the field's. The modification will insure the grade requirements for the "Preparation for the Major" courses are the same for both the Economics BA and BS.
  • Economics, BS. Three modifications to the course requirements for the Economics BS: One, replace the ECON 3 requirement with STAT 95. Two, replace the ECON 103 requirement with ECON 103a. Three, replace one of the required Upper Division Economic Electives with ECON 103b as a required course.  The intent of the degree modifications is to better prepare students for the job market and graduate school. The modifications also bring the department's curriculum inline with the broader the field's
  • Electrical Engineering, MS. Incorporate a GWAR requirement into program.
  • Engineering, MS. ENGR 202 is now a GWAR class; remove ENGR 203 as required course.
  • General Engineering, BS. Major revisions to program core to meet industry needs and provide a focused program of study.
  • Japanese, BA and Minor. This catalog change happens because a newly created area V course (JPN102B 3 units) was added to the catalog and because the existing JPN102A will be changed from 3 units to 4 units. Other major language programs have this area V and 4-unit JPN102A courses, so Japanese program can align with other major language programs by this change.
  • High-Speed and Intercity Rail Management Certificate. Minor updates to the certificate title and certificate description. Better reflect the content taught and current professional needs.
  • Marine Science, MS. Incorporate a GWAR requirement into program.
  • Materials Engineering, MS. Added CHE 200 and MATE 280 to the core, and removed MATE 210 from the core. Reduced MATE 298 and MATE 299 to culminating experience credit only. The research units are now MATE 280 and students may use up to 10 MATE 280 units as part of their 30 units.
  • Mathematics, BA, Integrated Teacher Education. All students that have catalog rights before Fall 2018 will be moved to the following plan: XMTSSBA1 Mathematics (Teach Prep-Sngl).
The new code for the ITEP program will be MITPBA-1 Mathematics (Intg. Teach Prep).
  • Medical Product Development Management, MS. Revisions to course curriculum for MPDM MS program to reflect changes of classes due to faculty retirement, reassignment.
  • Nursing, BS. The curriculum redesign will reduce the total program length from 6 semesters to 5 semesters to meet the 2025 CSU graduation mandate, enhance courses with evidence-based practice, include newly required content, and incorporate Area Z 100W writing course into an evidence-based nursing research course. Courses will be renumbered.
  • Nursing BS, RN to BSN. Creating a separate track for RN to BSN students that is primarily online (hybrid). Courses will be renumbered.
  • Political Science, BA. Capstone course revision to expand capstone course options for political science majors.
  • Public Health, BS. Program revisions and discontinuation of the Concentration in Health Services Administration.
  • Spanish, MA. Changing all courses from 3 to 4 units.

Currently, the listed GWAR Courses are ScWk 212 and ScWk 214. 2) Removing Fields of Practice in the Advanced Year 3) Combining the two Research Courses in the Foundation Year (ScWk 240 and ScWk 242) into an integrated course, ScWk 240 to be offered in the Spring semester.
  • Software Engineering, MS. Changes include adding GWAR course as degree requirement, adding one core course (CMPE 255), adding two courses (CMPE 257 and 258) to the Data Science specialization, subtracting two courses (CMPE 255 and 256) from the Data Science specialization, and changing the total units to 33.
