Biography
Dr. Les Rowntree taught at SJSU from 1970 to 2005, initially in the Geography Department then, starting in 1975, in the then young Department of Environmental Studies. During his 30 years with Environmental Studies, Les served several terms as Program Coordinator and Department Chair; along with those administrative duties, he also taught a full array of both undergraduate and graduate courses. Currently, Rowntree is a Research Associate at the University of California, Berkeley, where he researches and writes about global environmental issues, California climate variability and change, fire ecology, and native plant ecology.
