The Supernatural

The Supernatural genre has always fascinated me more than any other genre. I first discovered this genre when I was looking through my elementary school library.  I was in the forth grade when I began reading the series of Fear Street by R.L. Stine, and it was at that moment that I fell in love with the supernatural genre, which I still enjoy today.  Recently the supernatural genre has become very popular with the making of the Twilight series into a movie series and L.J. Smiths The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle series into a television series on the CW.  The supernatural genre allows teens to read about themes and situations they might face in real life while adding the interesting realm of the supernatural.

The supernatural allows teens to enter a different world from their world.  A world that also faces the same problems and situations they might be going through.  In Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, Bella is a young girl who finds love in a place she felt she hated and discovers that it is in that place where she belongs.  Many teen relate to this story of trying to find where you belong.  Discovering the life you are meant to live and finding your true love in a place you never would have guessed.

In the book Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast, Zoey is a young girl who discovers that she has been marked as a fledgling vampire.  This change occurs when she has hit puberty, which is something teens must face in their lives.  Zoey also discovers that she has powers she never knew she had.
