Average Global Temperature in
the El Niño Year of 2016

There are numerous reports of March 2016 being the hottest March in 137 years. But those reports do not mention that 2016 is an El Niño year. Here is the record of month-by-month global temperature in the troposphere. The data is compiled at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. It runs from December of 1978 to February of 2016.

One sees that yes the average global temperatures for the end of 2015 and the beginning have leaped upwards, but the graph shows that in previous El Niño years the temperatures did not stay at those high levels but instead dropped back to average levels and fora few months fell to below average levels. In the case of the 1998 high point it was not surpassed until the beginning of 2016. That is something on the order of 18 years over which the record temperature was not surpassed. The peak in the 2010 El Niño also was not surpassed until another El Niño came in 2015-2016.

Those who hysterically report record high temperatures without mentioning El Niño apparently do not possess an ounce of intellectual integrity.
