Private Spaces: Home
Reading: Kunstler (1-16); Adler and Springen (58-59); Gaura and Zinko (1-3)
Shifting our analysis of human bodies and relationships toward broader contexts, we begin to study social and cultural forms enacted through various spaces and places. Beginning with the home, we explore how gender, class, and ideology are enacted in structures that include the mythical front porch, internal spaces, and the emergence of so-called McMansions.
