Our last day on the road: even though we were sad to leave all the fun of Texas and Route 66 behind, we were all looking forward to getting home, seeing our kitties, checking mail and relaxing in our own beds. The day was a long drive with few stops. We passed the time with music, more Simpsons games and some reading.

We did manage one very important stop, however; the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory in Monterey. We go there every chance we get to soak in the Forrest Gump atmosphere and eat some really tasty shrimp. Always a must when going so close to Monterey and especially since we had so few things to do on the road that day.

We finally made it home about 8:30, a little too late to watch The Simpsons but we did all the wonderful things we were looking forward to. The kitties were a little discombobulated and needed some coaxing to forgive us for leaving them in the hands of strangers. But, after some serious head scratching they liked us again. Andy, of course, checked his email almost immediately, Vienna ran around being very excited to be home and I went through the mail and looked at all the cool souvenirs. We had a great vacation to look back on and a lot more to look forward to in the future. All in all it was a successful trip with few problems and a great ending. I love it when coming home is as great as leaving.
