Master of Social Work, Interpersonal Practice and Mental Health
University of Michigan

Bachelor of Arts, Psychology
University of Michigan

Michael joined the Humanities and Arts Student Success Center in July 2021 as Director.

Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Michael completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (UofM). As an undergrad, Michael pursued a major in psychology, hoping to both satisfy his curiosities about human behavior and identify pathways to working with individuals struggling to make sense of the world around them. In addition to his studies Michael was actively involved in several co-curriculars, including being a member of student-led Black volunteer organizations, a research assistant in multiple social science research labs, and as a long jumper on the UofM Track and Field team.

After undergrad, Michael remained at UofM to pursue his Master of Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in Interpersonal Practice and focus area of Mental Health. Post MSW, Michael held several roles at UofM, including academic advisor, career coach, and assistant director of the liberal arts career center’s career coaching and outreach team. He loves working to create access to people and opportunities for all students, with a particularly strong interest in doing so for students who have historically been forced to exist on the margins. He aims to change and dismantle oppressive and unequal systems while simultaneously preparing students to thrive in spite of them, while the systems still exist.

In his leisure time, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and friends, watching all types of suspense, superhero, and thriller movies on Netflix, HBOMax, and Disney+, and supporting his two favorite sports teams: the Detroit Lions and Golden State Warriors.
