California Promise

Overview

California Promise is a program established under the California Senate Bill 412 to facilitate graduation in 4 years for incoming frosh and 2 years for incoming transfers. Additional support is provided to students to ensure that timely academic progress is made.

 

Why Join California Promise?

Joining California Promise can provide you with several advantages to ensure that you graduate on-time in two or four years. Some of these advantages include but are not limited to:

  • Enhanced advising

  • Early registration time (compared to students in your class level)

  • Timely graduation

 

Who is Eligible?

  • California residents for the purposes of in-state tuition eligibility (includes CA Dream Act students).

  • Incoming frosh who are interested in and are able to complete their baccalaureate degree within 4 years.

  • Incoming transfers who are interested in and are able to complete their baccalaureate degree within 2 years.

 

How Do I Join?

During orientation or at the beginning of your first term at SJSU, complete the Pledge Form through MySJSU or the Spartan Ready Canvas course. (You will not receive a confirmation about opting in).

Frosh must complete a 4 year plan on MyPlanner through your MySJSU. Transfers must complete a 2 year plan on MyPlanner through your MySJSU.

 

How Do I Stay On?

To stay on California Promise, students must ensure that they continue to uphold the following conditions:

  • Successfully complete 30 units towards your degree every academic year (this includes Winter and Summer session at SJSU).

  • Maintain good academic standing, a GPA of 2.0 or above.

  • Complete all required courses on the first attempt with the minimum grade requirements for your major, including minimum grade requirements for prerequisites.

  • Remain in your admitted major. If you change majors, you must receive approval from the California Promise advisor in the college of your new major.
