The Academic Senate has passed a policy resolution on strategic planning, signed by interim President Kassing, which provides a process for moving forward with desired strategic planning actions, reports Annette Nellen, senate chair. The new policy creates two new planning councils: the Goals Advisory Council, which will focus on five to seven-year goals, and the University Planning Council, which will use the recommendations of the GAC to develop strategies for achieving the goals and develop short-term action plans and performance indicators. Advisory panels will be established to best ensure that broad and informed suggestions and explanation of campus needs are communicated to the UPC.
In addition, Nellen would like to hear from faculty members who are interested in one of the three faculty-at-large positions. Send a statement of interest to Nellen by Jan. 3 at senate.chair@sjsu.edu. These positions are for a two-year term. The faculty will be selected by elected members of the executive committee.
