A magazine produced by Cathleen Miller, professor of creative writing, with a San Francisco writing group, the Wild Writing Women, has won the North American Travel Journalists Association award for Best Online Travel Magazine of 2004 for its "Taking Flight" issue. Miller, the editor in chief of the publication, says, "Since we’ve only done four issues to date, we were shocked and delighted to learn that we’d won this award." The School of English, Philosophy and Humanities at Fairleigh Dickinson University judged the contest. See http://www.wildwritingwomen.com/zine/.
Three SJSU professors: Greg Payne, kinesiology; Joseph Pesek, chemistry; Jan English-Lueck, anthropology; and one administrator, Kenneth Coale, director of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, have been nominated for the CSU’s Wang Family Excellence Award. The award recognizes a CSU faculty member or administrator for extraordinary commitment, dedication and contributions in their academic disciplines as well as their impact on students.
