Rona Tamiko Halualani, associate professor of communication studies, has been selected as a 2005 Carnegie Scholar by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Only 20 scholars were selected from over 300 international applicants. Scholars spend a year working on a project to investigate and document significant issues in the teaching and learning of their fields. Halualani's project asks: "How Do Students Integratively Learn About Diversity in the Intercultural Communication Course." According to Halualani, the College of Social Sciences and the Department of Communication Studies have pledged additional support for released time and travel to the three required residencies at Stanford University, which will supplement the $3,000 stipend from the Carnegie Foundation.
