Television, Radio, Film and Theatre Professor Babak Sarrafan has won his fourth Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts award in best of competition for his music video "Forever Now." This year, Sarrafan also won the Best of Festival King Foundation Award. He directed and edited the 35mm music video project for the pop artist Natalise last year, which has also been webcast and aired on music channel outlets. Associate Professor of Special Education Jennifer Madigan and Michael Graham, assistant professor of science at Moss Landing Marine Laboratory, have received the Early Career Investigator Award for 2004-05, presented by the San José State Foundation. Madigan has been successful in getting grants for her research related to gender issues in special education. Graham, a faculty member since 2003, was honored for his extraordinary level of scientific and scholarly productivity. Emily Wughalter, professor of kinesiology, has received the Honor Award, the most prestigious award presented by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport. Wughalter was honored for her exemplary and devoted service to the profession and for her leadership and contributions to advancing girls and women in sport. Contact her at ewughalter@hup.sjsu.edu.
Laurie Drabble, assistant professor of social work, has received the "Friend of the Field" Director's Award from the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs. Drabble was honored for her substantial contributions to the field of substance abuse prevention and treatment in California, particularly for her research and advocacy among women, lesbian, gay and bisexual communities, and her collaboration between substance abuse treatment and child welfare fields. Dayana Salazar, chair of the urban and regional planning department, reports that students of the department have won two awards from the Northern Section of the California Chapter of the American Planning Association. Gavin Moynahan received an award in Leadership and Service: Distinguished Leadership - Student Planner. In addition, a team of 11 urban planning students, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Matthew Paoni, were selected to receive the Leadership and Service Award: Academic.
