Jacqueline Thurston, professor of art, has a solo exhibition of her photographic collection, "Vital Signs," at the San José Museum of Art through September 11. Thurston began capturing this series of photographs at hospitals in the 1970s. Her work, which explores human fragility and vulnerability on the cusp of life and death, helps us begin to understand the world of modern medicine and technology and empathize with patients as they undergo difficult and often painful treatments. Thurston also has an exhibition of drawings opening at the Triangle Gallery in San Francisco, in mid-August. Contact Thurston at mythral@comcast.net.
