Three professors and 30 students from SJSU recently completed a three-week short course in Bangkok as part of the University's study-abroad program. The course on Marketing Communications in Southeast Asia, was taught by marketing professors Howard Combs and Sak Onkvisit, and journalism and mass communications Professor Dennis Wilcox. Based at Chulalongkorn University, the course involved the Faculty of Communication Arts and the Faculty of Commerce, says Wilcox. Students stayed in the residence hall at Chula and also attended classes on campus. In addition, they participated in a number of field trips to various corporations, advertising agencies, and public relations firms. According to Wilcox, a highlight this year was a briefing by the CEO of Bumrungrad Hospital. The hospital was recently featured on CBS "60 minutes" for serving about 135,000 foreign patients annually in a new trend called "medical tourism." Contact Professor Wilcox at dwilcox@casa.sjsu.edu
