Therese Louie, associate professor of marketing, presented a paper at the Leipzig Hindsight Bias Workshop in Leipzig, Germany, on "Hindsight Bias and Outcome-Consistent Thoughts When Observing and Making Service Provider Decisions." The workshop was a three-day event focusing on cognitive and motivational elements that produce retrospective biases (e.g., the "Monday Morning Quarterback" syndrome. Jill Steinberg, director of SJSU's Peer Mentor Program, presented "Learning with Peers: Lessons from Two Programs" at the 18th International Conference on the First-Year Experience in Southampton, England. Don Reed, professor of geology, made an invited presentation at a workshop on Teaching About the Ocean System Using New Research Techniques: Data, Models and Visualization," which was part of the Cutting Edge Workshop Series, at the University of Wasgon, shington in Seattle. Reed also attended the 3rd Annual Advisory Group meeting to the EarthEd project in Hood River, Oreponsored by the National Science Foundation. Reeds presentations focused on creating and implementing virtual ocean research experiences for undergraduates delivered over the World Wide Web. Reed says that he spent much of the summer at the Romberg Tiburon Center, San Francisco State University's marine field station, while teaching three sections of his online oceanography class at SJSU.
