Hannah Nevins, a scientist at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, was quoted in an Associated Press story on the unusual weather patterns that have disrupted the marine ecosystem along the Pacific Coast and caused observers to find more dead seabirds than is typical.

A new book by Marcos Pizarro, associate professor of Mexican-American Studies, entitled Chicanas and Chicanos in School: Racial Profiling, Identity Battles, and Empowerment, was recently released by the University of Texas Press. Pizarro studied Chicana/o students in both urban and rural school districts to find out about their school experiences, and he developed a model to understand and empower these students to be successful.
