The U.S. Department of Education has enforced a provision that Congress passed in 2004 that every school and college that receives federal money must teach about the Constitution on September 17, the day the document was adopted in 1787. Since Constitution Day falls on a weekend this year, events at SJSU will begin on Friday, Sept. 16, with an online Web stream program featuring Conversations with Supreme Court Justices, beginning at 9 a.m. in IRC 308. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the College of Social Sciences will present a panel discussion on Presidential Power in Wartime, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Engineering 189. The entire campus community is invited to participate in these events. See the calendar for more details at www.sjsu.edu/events. More information about the Sept. 16 event is available at www.justicelearning.org/constitutionday/index.asp.
