According to Steve Aquino, survey research and evaluation specialist, the Office of Undergraduate Studies, along with Institutional Research, is participating with the Council for Aid to Education in administering a four-year longitudinal assessment of SJSU students. This month, 300 first-year freshmen will participate in a three-hour online assessment of written communication, analytic reasoning and critical thinking skills. These same students will then be asked to take similar assessments in their sophomore and senior years. Results of these assessments will show how students are learning and growing academically, as well as how SJSU is contributing to their educational experience, says Aquino. In addition, results will be comparable with the other institutions participating in this national assessment. For more information, see www.cae.org/content/pro_collegiate.htm.
