Bill DeVincenzi, lecturer in accounting and finance and faculty advisor to the Financial Management Association student club, reports that the club has grown from a dozen members to more than 200, which has earned them a number of significant membership awards, and DeVincenzi being named a Superior Faculty Advisor. According to DeVincenzi, "The student leaders have done an incredible job in recruiting and retaining members and providing them with meaningful professional experiences that will enhance their opportunities to acquire good jobs in the future." Students have had opportunities to meet with professionals from Cisco Systems, Applied Materials, Hewlett Packard, National Semiconductor, and many others, he adds. Peer Mentors Needed
Jill Steinberg, director of the Peer Mentor Program, has requested
that faculty nominate students to serve as peer mentors. The Peer Mentor Program,
says Steinberg, helps ease the transition to SJSU by empowering students to
help each other and themselves. Peer Mentors are among the best, brightest and
most diverse SJSU students. The mentors are paid, have use of an Apple laptop,
are supervised by university faculty and serve as role models in the MUSE classroom
and in the Peer Mentor Center. Thursday, Oct. 27 is the last day to submit nominations
for the program. For more on the program, contact Steinberg at jillas@email.sjsu.edu
or see www.sjsu.edu/muse.
