Fall 2005 enrollment at the California State University has passed the 400,000-student mark once again, after having dipped in fall 2004 due to budget-driven enrollment declines. The current enrollment now stands at more than 405,000 students, compared with 397,000 students in fall 2004. The CSU remains the country's largest senior system of higher education. The current CSU enrollment figure of 405,292 represents 8,244 more students than last year. Higher fall enrollments occurred at 14 CSU campuses, with the largest gains occurring at Fullerton (up 2,296), Northridge (up 1,902), Long Beach (up 1,068) and San Jos?? (up 931). The system's newest campus at Channel Islands grew by 554 students. "This is good news, especially since we were able to provide access to more students this year, thanks to increased funding provided by the governor's compact with the CSU," said Chancellor Charles B. Reed. "Our outreach to high schools and community colleges is continuing and we will be working to enroll more students during the coming spring and winter terms on campuses with available space."
