The Western Regional Council of the College Board recently provided a $10,000 Greenhouse Grant to support the SJSU's CME Society Initiative for former foster youth. Connie Hernandez Robbins, special assistant to the associate vice president of student services, wrote the grant proposal.Approximately 50 freshmen admitted for fall 2006 will participate in a two-day Educational Opportunity Program Bridge session at San Jos?? State University next week, organized by Academic Advising and Retention Services, reports Maria Romo, Academic Program Coordinator/EOP. "The Bridge program is important because it focuses on academic skills and assures that students are familiar with the campus and available support services," says Romo. "The goal is to provide selected first-time freshmen with a head start in developing the necessary skills, particularly in English and Math, for success at SJSU." Among the activities planned, students will participate in learning communities, academic advising, and tutoring sessions with the Learning Assistance Resource Center.
