San Jos?? State University, in partnership with Spartan Shops and the city of San Jos??, has established a Faculty Homebuyer Program, reports Beth Pugliese, division director of commercial services for Spartan Shops, Inc. The FHP provides new SJSU tenure-track faculty members (hired on or after May 1, 2006) with the opportunity to purchase a home with zero percent interest and a deferred payment loan of up to $60,000. "This is a unique and proactive town/gown approach to addressing the difficulty in hiring and retaining faculty members, due to the ever-rising cost of housing in Silicon Valley," says Pugliese.
