This week the SJSU Campus Reading Program will feature an event to focus attention on the summer/fall 2006 book, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, which is the subject of group discussions throughout the semester. On Wednesday, Sept. 13, Jay Bell of the Drachen Foundation will be on campus to present a workshop for students on kite fighting. Bell is the current Northern and Central California shortline fighter kite champion. The students will each make a fighter kite and then fly them on Tower Lawn in the afternoon after the workshop, which ends at 2:30 p.m. The Drachen Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to the increase and dissemination of knowledge about kites worldwide.
