In honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month in September, libraries are encouraging people to visit public libraries and sign up for library cards for access to the latest best-selling books, DVD and CD collections, local reading programs, and computer resources. According to a message from U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, the American Library Association estimates that each year, 2 billion items are checked out of America's libraries based upon 1.3 billion library visits. At King Library alone, circulation was at 2,357,540 and gate count totalled 2,632,821 between July 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006. Read more about King.
