The Burdick Military History Project, sponsored by SJSU's Department of History and located in Industrial Studies 219C, recently announced the opening of its new research room, reported Jonathan Roth, chair of the history department and director of the project. The research room, the only one of its kind in the CSU system, contains a collection of nearly 5,000 books, journals, magazines and militaria. The collection provides a unique opportunity for military historians. "Our motto at the Burdick Project is 'Studying war in pursuit of peace.' Regardless of the politics of war, it is important to remember those in the past who by serving in the military, have helped to create our world," Roth said. He credited volunteer administrator Guy Wilson and Burdick interns and volunteers with the effort to catalogue this impressive collection. Although the collection does not circulate, the research room is open to the public Monday through Friday. For hours, call 408-924-4785. For more on the project, contact Roth at jroth@email.sjsu.edu. The project also sponsors a series of lectures and discussions including a panel of World War II veterans on Tuesday, November 21, at 3 p.m. in King 225. More on the panel.
