Assemblywoman Sally Lieber will hold a public hearing this week at SJSU on Gulf Coast conditions after Hurricane Katrina. The hearing will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 16, in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, Room 229. Professor Scott Myers-Lipton and SJSU students who visited the Gulf Coast in January will testify. They have proposed federal legislation that would result in what they call the Gulf Coast Civic Works Project. The project would create 100,000 jobs for residents to rebuild their lives and communities. Many news organizations have covered Myers-Lipton and his students including, most recently, The Kansas City Star. More on the project. Read The Kansas City Star story.
