Kiran Desai, the 2007 National Book Critics Circle Award winner for fiction and the youngest woman to win the Booker Prize, will visit SJSU this week. She is the author of "The Inheritance of Loss." "Although it focuses on the fate of a few powerless individuals," said the New York Times, "Kiran Desai's extraordinary new novel manages to explore, with intimacy and insight, just about every contemporary international issue: globalization, multiculturalism, economic inequality, fundamentalism and terrorist violence." Desai will deliver the 2007 Martha Heasley Cox Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at the University Theatre. In addition, Desai will appear in conversation with Mitch Berman, Center for Literary Arts director, at noon on Wednesday, April 4, in Engineering 189. Both events are free and open to the public.
