On Friday, April 27, San Jos?? State University and Santa Clara University will host the 2007 Mid-Pacific Regional Conference for student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The event will include a concrete canoe race at 9 a.m. at Lake Cunningham in San Jos??. Yes, we're talking about canoes with hulls made of concrete. Students design and build their canoes, and then paddle through the race course. As many as 10 teams are expected to compete, including Chico State, Fresno State, Sacramento State, San Francisco State, Cal, University of California-Davis, University of Nevada-Reno and the University of the Pacific.
