Seventh and eighth graders from across the state will arrive at SJSU on Friday, June 8, to take part in a program aimed at preparing foster youth for college. The four-day camp, the first of the summer at SJSU, will provide 30 participants with the information and counseling they need to develop academic plans that will help them prepare for college. The youngsters will also meet former foster children who are now SJSU students. The entire group plans to tour the campus and go bowling Friday afternoon at SJSU's Student Union. The camp will be supported by a $20,000 grant from the Pottruck Family Foundation. The camp's host is SJSU's Connect, Motivate and Educate Society, which supports students who have been in foster care. Get more information online or contact Pat Lopes Harris at 408-924-1748.
