Dorothy Allison -- author of the bestselling novel Bastard Out of Carolina and a National Book Award finalist -- will make two appearances on campus this Wednesday as the 2007 Martha Heasley Cox Lecturer. The bastard in her book is "Ruth Anne Boatwright, also known as Bone, who narrates the first 13 years of her life in Greenville County, South Carolina. It is a time of both violence and hope. The author's 'technical skill in both large things and details ... is simply stunning, about as close to flawless as any reader could ask for,'" said the New York Times. Get more information on Allison and the center's other speakers -- including Salman Rushdie and ZZ Packer.
