What happens when foster children become adults? Studies show 51 percent of those over age 22 nationwide are unemployed, 40 percent are on public assistance and 20 percent are incarcerated. Just one percent graduate from college. But change is on the way. San Jos?? State and the Silicon Valley Children's Fund will host "Creating a Blueprint: Building Support for Students from Foster Care on Higher Education Campuses" on November 7-9 at the Santa Clara Marriott. Attracted by the state's pioneering role, around 300 professionals from across the country are expected to attend the conference. California recently passed legislation supporting foster youth in higher education. At SJSU, the Division of Student Affairs founded the CME (Connect Motivate Educate) Society to support foster youth. Read more on CME. Read more on the conference.
