Coinciding with Black History Month, a San José State researcher has opened an exhibit on local black history at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. SJSU alumna and lecturer Iris Jerke aims to write the first full history of blacks in Santa Clara Valley. She hopes the exhibit will inspire visitors to share their stories with her. The display, on the library's fifth floor through Saturday, March 1, "offers glimpses into the personal lives of several black individuals and families from San José, and provides snapshots of the early 20th century San José black community," Jerke said.
