San José State will play an important role in 01SJ, a biennial, global festival of art on the edge that will take place June 4-8, 2008, in downtown San José. 01SJ is North America's newest and largest festival of digital arts showcasing ground-breaking installations, interactive performances, and new cinema.

Three pieces to be featured at 01SJ are being produced by artists supported by FUSE, a residency research initiative created by SJSU's CADRE Laboratory for New Media and the Montalvo Arts Center. FUSE artists reside at Montalvo's Sally and Don Lucas Artists Programs while working with San José State graduate students and Silicon Valley industry partners to research and develop projects.

Also, San José State faculty member Shona Kitchen is the artist who produced the art work used in all 01SJ marketing material. The graphic shows a futuristic skyline. Kitchen, a Scotland native, teaches a digital media art class within the CADRE program.
