Active Shooter Response Exercise, Friday Morning, April 18
The University Police Department will conduct an active shooter response exercise at MacQuarrie Hall on Friday morning, April 18. Expect to see and hear emergency personnel and vehicles in the southwest corner of campus. Volunteers from the campus community will pose as evacuees, victims and the suspect. The media may cover the exercise, which will conclude with a news conference. Similar exercises have or will be held on all 23 California State University campuses.
Telephone-Based Emergency Notification Drills, 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, and Friday Morning, April 18
San José State will test its emergency mass notification system at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, and Friday morning, April 18. The mass notification system uses speakers built into most office and classroom telephones. Students and employees will hear a short tone alerting them to an incoming message and then the message itself. The test message will not be audible outdoors or from telephones within King Library or Campus Village, areas that will be incorporated into the system.
San José State -- Silicon Valley's largest institution of higher learning with 32,000 students and 5,700 employees -- is part of the California State University system. SJSU's 154-acre downtown campus anchors the nation's 10th largest city.
