Nearly 1,000 San José State students, faculty, staff, neighbors and community members will gather at 8 a.m. Friday, April 25, for SJSU's Second Annual Day of Service. After meeting in the Student Union's Barrett Ballroom for registration and an opening ceremony, volunteers will spend the day in neighborhoods surrounding campus working on many service projects.

Kassing and Vice President for Student Affairs Veril Phillips will speak at the opening ceremony, which will conclude at 9 a.m. Volunteers will spend the morning and early afternoon working, and then reflecting on their work. They will return to campus at 2:15 p.m. for a barbecue celebration on Tower Lawn, where San José Councilmember Sam Liccardo is scheduled to speak.

The Day of Service will be sponsored by the City of San José, CommUniverCity San José and Associated Students Cesar E. Chavez Community Action Center.
