Charlene Archibeque, professor emeritus, received the Howard Swan Award from the American Choral Directors Association. The annual honor goes to a retired choral director "in recognition of inspirational service to the art of choral conducting." Also, Archibeque conducted a massed choir with 225 members at the Presbyterian Church of America General Assembly, which was held in San José this past June.
Joel Slayton, professor of art and design and director of the CADRE Laboratory for New Media, was named executive director of ZER01: the Art & Technology Network. Slayton is on leave from SJSU while leading ZER01, which seeks to inspire culture at the intersection of art and technology. ZER01 also produces 01SJ: A Global Festival of Art on the Edge.
Jeremy Kemp, lecturer in the School of Library and Information Science and assistant director of the school's Second Life Campus, will lead a project focusing on the union of the ANGEL Learning Management Suite and Second Life. The expected outcome of the project is an ANGEL drop box that students can use to share evidence of their work from within Second Life.
