A San José State student group will plant 1,800 white flags on the lawn surrounding the Smith-Carlos sculpture at noon Thursday, August 28, in remembrance of Hurricane Katrina victims. The storm slammed the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005. Gulf Coast Civic Works Project student leaders will also host a community forum featuring California Assemblywoman Sally Lieber and Katrina survivors at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 31, on the second floor of King Library.
