Former SJSU President Don W. Kassing will be honored at the Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee annual dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, September 19, at the Fairmont San Jose. Kassing will receive the Friend of BAYMEC award for his role in suspending blood drives at San José State on the grounds that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's lifetime blood donor deferral affecting gay men violates SJSU's non-discrimination policy.
