Cheryl Allmen-Vinnedge, director of San José State's Career Center, has been named a 2008-2009 U.S. Fulbright Scholar. She will travel to Berlin for the U.S.-Germany International Education Administrators Program.
Dalton Nguyen, a software engineering student, is the first San José State student to be selected for the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program. Only eight individuals nationwide were chosen this year after a rigorous application process including an interview with Admiral Kirkland H. Donald, director of naval nuclear propulsion. Most officers in the nuclear field are stationed aboard a nuclear powered submarine or a nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
Michael Pickens, a communications major, is the first community college alumnus to be selected for the U.S. Navy's Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program. A transfer student from DeAnza College, Pickens is one of 150 individuals selected nationwide this year.
