The SJSU Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies has named three up-and-coming writers as 2008 Steinbeck Fellows. Each will give a public reading at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, at the center, which is within the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Library. The fellows are Cora Stryker, a tropical field biologist, noted poet and aspiring novelist; Jasmin Darznik, an essay and short story writer whose memoir of Iran will soon be published; and Cristine Gonzalez, a former journalist writing a memoir on four generations of her mother's family in Okinawa, Peru and the United States.
