Two San José State student films won top honors at the Campus MovieFest Western Regional Finale, held recently in San Francisco. "Hungry" won Best Picture. "Tighter Than You" won Best Comedy. Both flicks will now move on to the Campus MovieFest's national competition in June. "Hungry" team leaders were Eugene Kim and Matt Falkenthal. "Tighter Than You" team leaders were James Jeffrey and Jake Humbert.
"Tighter Than You" also won the Audience Choice award at the 18th annual California State University Media Arts Festival, held recently at CSU Channel Islands. The First Place Rosebud Award went to SJSU student Kellie Rice for "Andromache." The festival provides CSU film, video and interactive media students with the opportunity to present their work for critical review.
SJSU alumna Margaret Jenkins will be inducted posthumously into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, November 19, at HP Pavilion. Jenkins became the South Bay's first female Olympian when she threw the discus at the 1928 Games. She also set the javelin world record, played volleyball and tennis, fly-fished and earned a pilot's license. A graduate of San Jose Teachers College (now SJSU), Jenkins taught at Santa Clara schools for 31 years.
The Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship, within the SJSU College of Business, received a commendation during the Tuesday, November 18, San Jose City Council meeting for its "commitment to promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and the international visibility and economic vitality of the City of San Jose." The center's director is Anu Basu, professor of organization and management.
