Two San José State alumni will be featured in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 5, in the Music Concert Hall.
The SJSU Symphonic Band and SJSU Wind Ensemble will perform "Essay for Band" and "Concerto No. 2 for Piano and Wind Ensemble" by Professor Emeritus of Music Brent Heisinger. The concerto reflects East Indian, Indonesian and African influences. "For some time I have been interested in creating music that embraces world concepts, primarily and perhaps simply because I like many aspects of music from other cultures in addition to the music of my Western European upbringing," Heisinger wrote.
Also, Neil Rutman, artist in residence in piano at Central Arkansas University, will perform solo. "After studying with Aiko Onishi at SJSU, Rutman completed degrees at Eastman School of Music and Peabody Institute, received several awards and top prizes at international piano competitions, produced CDs, and performed in leading halls including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Kennedy Center," Heisinger said.
Tickets are $10 general admission and $7 for students.
