The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, in collaboration with many local organizations and businesses, will celebrate the slain Civil Rights leader's 80th birthday with a series of events this month and next. San José Mayor Chuck Reed and San José State President Jon Whitmore will reflect on King's legacy and help cut a birthday cake in his honor at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 15. This event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on the library's third floor, which houses a collection of materials on King. More events on Saturday, January 17, and Saturday, February 14, include "An Evening Tribute to Dr. King," featuring the SJSU Gospel Choir and a re-enactment, across the SJSU campus, of a Civil Rights march.
