What's the one thing most tech products have in common? Metal. Metal's needed for the parts running our favorite gadgets, parts like housings, enclosures, networking chassis and sub-assemblies. With that in mind, the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering and San José-based Airtronics Metal Products have launched an educational outreach program for mechanical engineering majors. Airtronics and SJSU faculty are collaborating on classroom presentations, plant tours, internships and design projects that will provide students hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication.
"Having opportunities in college to learn hands-on about manufacturing processes, such as sheet metal fabrication, has proven invaluable to me in solving real-world engineering challenges," said Michael Huynh, a San José State graduate and Silicon Valley mechanical engineer.
