San José State's Healthy Campus initiative, in partnership with Spartan Dining and Kaiser Permanente, has rolled out a new dining option known as the Spartan Smart Cart. Offering fresh fruit and veggies, the cart will be open for business outside Clark Hall from 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Look for the large green banners. Customers can pick up a snack, or order a week's worth of produce for work or home. The cart's the brainchild of Marjorie Freedman, an assistant professor of nutrition, food science and packaging, and her Healthy Campus team, which found through surveys that students, faculty and staff would eat more fresh produce if it was as easy to find and as inexpensive as the other stuff they munch.
