Professor William D. DeVincenzi of the Department of Accounting and Finance in the College of Business has received the 2008/2009 San José State Outstanding Lecturer Award. The honor recognizes excellence in teaching and service to the campus community, and is among the university's top honors.
DeVincenzi began teaching at San José State in 1994 following a successful career in corporate finance. His students say nothing compares to learning from someone with hands-on experience. His success with expanding the corporate financial management major and adding an honors practicum became a practice adopted by all College of Business departments. The effort is now supported by a $5.2 million gift from San José State alumnus Gary J. Sbona, chairman and chief executive officer of Regent Pacific Management Corporation.
During DeVincenzi's tenure as Financial Management Association advisor, the club has grown from 12 to more than 150 members, among the largest in the nation. He was also a Salzburg Fellow in 2007, and he has accompanied student groups to China and Central Europe, trips students describe as their top SJSU learning experiences. ??DeVincenzi will formally receive the honor at the 10th Annual Faculty Service Recognition and Awards Luncheon in April.
