The California State University Board of Trustees voted to endorse five propositions coming before voters in a May 19 special election. Recognizing the state's unprecedented fiscal crisis, the trustees agreed to support Propositions 1A through 1E, saying the measures will help solve the state's critical budget problems.

Speaking recently before the Assembly Budget Subcommittee, CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed emphasized that the CSU plays a key role in California's economic recovery and that further cuts to the university would cause lasting damage. Reed is deeply concerned about the erosion of the quality of education and student access in the absence of adequate funding.
